A Christmas Winter Wedding At Sparth House Lancashire

Alex and Oliver Got Married!

Alex and Oliver were married on the shortest day of the year, 21st December, in a beautiful intimate ceremony at Sparth House in Accrington surrounded by all their family and friends! It truly was a lovely day . They had chosen Sparth, as the venue has a real homely feel, and they wanted to add lots of personal touches to their wedding breakfast tables, which were decorated in gold, red and green tones, perfect for a winter wedding just before Christmas!

I met up with Alex and Oliver back in November, for their engagement shoot up where they live in Darwen, for their shoot at Sunny Hurst woods. They had chosen these particular woods as they are literally a five-minute walk from their house and the colours are stunning in autumn. It made for some lovely portraits, where we could chat all things wedding, so it was nice to see all their plans and ideas come together beautifully on their wedding day.

I arrived at Sparth House to an excited bridal party and a super chilled bride! Alex was literally applying her own makeup and helping to curl her bridesmaid’s hair! Alex had chosen navy and baby blue coloured bridesmaid dresses which contrasted beautifully with her Christmassy flowers and ivory duchess bridal gown.

Alex and Oliver said ‘I do’ in the ceremony room at Sparth House which had been made over especially for Christmas with gold chairs, I totally loved this look! Keeping with the Christmas and winter theme, they served their guests warm mulled wine with slices of orange, it smelt divine! xx

As the wedding was held on the shortest day of the year and Alex and Oliver really wanted their confetti shot using ‘confetti lane’ we headed out to do this as soon as we could, I then whisked the newlyweds off for some alone time and some natural wedding portraits before the last of the winter sun disappeared and it was time for the wedding breakfast meal and speeches.

Winter weddings are a great opportunity to get creative with some night-time off camera flash portraits, Oliver and Alex had seen a particular image done at night at the front of the manor house, and really wanted me to re-create it just for them! I was only too happy to do this! Any excuse to go and do some extra photographs. In all fairness the image is gorgeous and looks stunning with the Christmas decorations on too.

I left the newlyweds on the dance floor, enjoying their lovely wedding with their evening guests and family. It was such a chilled wedding I really didn’t want to leave them! Alex and Oliver, your special day was just perfect, thank you for choosing me to be your wedding photographer, I had a fabulous day capturing your wedding!

Here are my favourite moments from the day.
